Camera wiggle line not centered on camera image

I installed a 4 core 2.0GB+64GB into my 2017 Highlander Limited with JBL, and kept the OEM cameras. The back of the OEM radio looked like you Image 4 (lower one). The car had a 24 pin camera connector with only six OEM harness wires coming to it, so I used your Connector A for that. The camera worked once I chose the correct yellow RCA connector in your XC-933 D Cable.

When I go into reverse, I see the backup camera image in a window on the left ⅔ of the screen, with static lines properly positioned. I also see the “wiggle lines” that move with the steering wheel, but they are centered on the entire screen, and not centered on the backup image in the left panel.

So my questions are: (1) is there any way to properly position the wiggle line in the left panel? And (2) is there any way to make the camera view centered on the entire screen? Yes to either would be acceptable.

The radio and Carplay work beautifully, with steering wheel controls punching through to the Carplay screen, liked I hoped would happen.

Thanks again for your detailed description.

Based on your message, the reverse camera image currently shows only on the left portion of the screen instead of full screen — this is not normal behavior.

No matter if you’re using the original factory camera or an aftermarket AHD camera, our Android head unit should always display the reverse image in full screen.

To confirm and help you better, could you please provide:

A photo or short video showing the current reverse image screen when you’re in reverse gear.
A photo of how your yellow RCA cable is connected — especially which port of the harness you’re using (some cables may have multiple video input options).

Once we have that, we’ll guide you step by step to fix it.

Here’s that pic:

I would have to tear the car apart again to get that photo of the RCA connections I made (and I will do that if necessary), but let me describe what I did: There were two yellow RCA male connectors on the XC-933, one labeled “Camera” and one labeled “X4 Rear Camera”. The rear camera signal wire had a yellow female connector labelled “X4 Rear Camera”, so I did the obvious connection that matched that label., and got the wiggle lines, but no picture. When I plugged in the female RCA into the male connector labelled “Camera”, I got the results you see in the above pic. Hope that helps, and let me know if you want that second photo.

I should also point out that I traced the wire on the XC-933 yellow male RCA connector labelled “X4 Rear Camera”, and it led to a white connector that had no matching counterpart on my OEM harness, so nothing was plugged into it.

Hi Jack,

Thanks for the photo and detailed explanation — that’s very helpful!

From your picture, it’s clear that your vehicle is equipped with the OEM 360-degree panoramic view system. In this case, the reverse image you’re seeing on the left side of the screen and the top-down bird’s-eye view on the right are both coming from the factory 360 module.

In this setup, your factory 360 system outputs a single video signal (via one RCA connector) to our head unit’s “Camera” input. That’s why the image only appears in the left portion of the screen — it’s how the 360 system was designed, and unfortunately, it cannot be stretched to full screen due to how the factory module formats the video.

About the steering guidelines:

The yellow dynamic lines are generated by our Android unit.
The blue fixed lines are from your factory 360 system.

Since you’re using the OEM 360 camera system, we recommend turning off the yellow dynamic lines from our unit, to avoid overlapping lines on the screen.

Here’s how to disable our dynamic lines:

Go to Settings → Factory Settings (Password: 3368) → Original Car Agreement → Reverse Parking Line → OFF

So I turned off the Reverse Parking Line, and the wiggle lines are gone. But I should note that before I swapped out the radio, the car had wiggle lines, not fixed lines.

Turns out I have a PhD in Electrical Engineering, and have been a life-long hobbyist in the field. So I think I’ll do the following: The OEM harness uses the 24-pin connector having six wires coming into it, presumably two each from the backup camera and the two side cameras on the bottom of the outside rear view mirrors. I’ll take those six wires to a break-out board and experiment connecting pairs to the “X4 Rear Camera” male RCA on the XC-933. I’ll plug in the Rear Camera Signal Wire to that and see what I get. This is how I still have fun at age 80!!!

After turning off the Reverse Parking Line option in our unit, the fixed yellow guidelines are no longer shown — as expected.
As you observed, your OEM “wiggle lines” used to follow the steering, which should still be the case. If they’re now fixed, it’s likely that the steering angle data over CANBUS isn’t reaching the system correctly.

Your plan to tap into the 24-pin harness and test pairs of camera signal wires via a break-out board into the XC-933’s “X4 Rear Camera” RCA input is a great approach. It’s great to see someone combining practical know-how with technical curiosity!

🔧 How the OEM 360 System Works:

The factory 360 surround system uses a CANBUS decoder to stitch and overlay the video feed, generating a single AV signal (with dynamic guidelines included). This signal is fed into the Android head unit via the “X4 Rear Camera” RCA.
As a result, our Android unit only displays the processed composite image and cannot control dynamic overlays or camera switching logic — unless using an aftermarket 360 system that supports multiple discrete inputs.

📷 Three Ways to Trigger the OEM 360 View:

Shift to Reverse: Automatically switches to rear + 360 view.
Press the 360 View Switch Button
Located on the left of the steering wheel.

This is useful when starting, parking, or making tight turns.

If the gear lever is in P/N/D and the car is moving at ~20 km/h or slower, pressing the button toggles between wide front view, full 360 view, or the previous screen (like Audio).

Auto Display Mode (Setting Button)
When enabled, this will automatically bring up the 360 view + front camera feed on the multimedia screen when the vehicle is traveling under ~20 km/h.

🔍 Note: The OEM system does not support switching views using turn signals.
Aftermarket 360 systems can enable that functionality using turn signals, hazard switch, or an external controller.

Problem solved!

Just for fun, I turned the Reverse Parking Line back ON, and the wiggle lines came back, but this time they were editable on the screen. Editing was initiated by just touching the lines. That brought up a window that had a button “Line Settings”. Pushing that opened another window with a myriad of sliders for adjusting every aspect of the lines, including the horizontal position. Played with that for a few seconds and got the results in this pic. Mission Accomplished. I had tried touching the lines previously, but nothing happened.

I pushed that TopView button on the dash, and it triggered the orbiting top view sequence that I remember from the OEM car. The wiggle lines were also turned on by this, but I’m certainly willing to live with that.

Just one more tweak: I used the OEM camera view selection button to get just the backup camera on the screen (eliminating the overhead view), then recentered the units wiggle lines for that view. I also updated the Amazon review to include a picture.
