CANBUS adapter & Backup Camera Issue

Hello again!

The T-7 model I have was shipped with CANBUS adapter. The radio in my truck only had one connection for power and speakers (antenna connection as well). The truck’s wiring harness only has a mating power/speaker connector. As far as I can see there’s no connector available for the CANBUS connection.

I see the back up camera control wire (pin 3) of the T-7’s main connector is directly wired to the CANBUS adapter.

So, can I remove the CANBUS adapter box completely? I assume I need to remove the back up camera control wire from the CANBUS adapter connector to wire it directly to the wire coming from the camera that is connected to the back up light.

I currently have the 8-pin cable from CANBUS adapter connected to the jack on T-7. Does that need to be removed?

About the CANBUS function:

The CANBUS adapter not only decodes the ACC signal (which allows the head unit to turn on/off with your car), but also supports:

Steering wheel button controls (e.g. volume +/–, track skip, mute, etc.)
Door status indication (when a door is opened, a corresponding icon will appear on the screen)

As shown in the image below, the screen displays a door icon when the door is open:

If your vehicle does not have steering wheel control buttons and you don’t need the door status display, it’s safe to remove the CANBUS adapter box entirely (recommended to unplug it completely).

Oops, that should be pin 5 of the T-7’s main connector. It’s a pink wire on the wire harness I have with the unit.

About the reverse camera trigger wire:

The reverse control wire on the T-7 head unit (typically pin 5 on the main harness) needs a +12V signal to automatically switch to the reverse camera view.

⚠️ Do not rely on wire color alone, please confirm based on the pin position (see diagram example).

If you are not using the CANBUS adapter, this trigger wire should be connected to the red or green control wire from the camera extension cable—this is usually the thin wire that runs alongside the video cable from the head unit to the rear of the vehicle.

Thanks for the information. The information you sent is confusing. Your text says it’s pin 5 but the photo shows it as pin 3.

The updated installation manual shows it as pin 5. The way pins are counted on that connector (left to right, top to bottom) make it pin5.

Counting just the top row, left to right it is the THIRD pin/wire. I

The most recent installation manual that was sent has a good illustration. I’m pretty sure I understand what needs to be done.

You’re absolutely right — the reverse control wire is pin 5 according to the standard pin numbering (counted from left to right, top to bottom). However, in some of our earlier installation manuals, it was labeled as pin 3 because we were simply counting wires visually from left to right on the top row, rather than using the official pin numbering system.
