Steering Wheel Controls Not Working Nissan Altima

Installed it fine. Most of it works as expected. However, the steering wheel controls don’t work. I verified all the plugs were seated properly. I tried both methods in the instructions for choosing the car in the CAN box type. Nothing on the steering wheel works, and the learning section never registers any activity.

1. Check if the CAN protocol matches your vehicle
In the “CAN Type” settings, please try selecting all available Nissan Altima options. The 2014 Altima may use different CAN protocols depending on the trim level. After changing the setting, be sure to restart the unit to apply the changes.

2. Try manual steering wheel key learning (for non-CAN vehicles)
If your Altima doesn’t use CAN signals for steering wheel controls, try going to Settings > Steering Wheel Learning (SWC). Tap a function on the screen, then press the corresponding button on your steering wheel to see if the system detects it.

3. Check the CAN decoder box model
If your unit uses an external CAN decoder box, make sure it is compatible with your vehicle. You can send us a clear photo of the CAN box and wiring labels, and we’ll help confirm.

4. Verify the steering wheel key signal wire connection
Some vehicles don’t use CAN for steering wheel control but instead rely on KEY1 / KEY2 wires. Please check if your vehicle has a steering wheel control wire and whether KEY1 or KEY2 is properly connected to the head unit wiring.

There are two types of OEM radios for the 2014 Nissan Altima — one with steering wheel control wiring and one without:

If your OEM system does not have steering wheel control wires, you should use the harness without a CAN decoder box.

I figured it out. When I disassembled everything to take photos, I noticed the “8-PIN Connector for Canbus” had a damaged wire. I cut out the damaged part of the wire, soldered it, and the steering wheel controls began working.

Working on installing the backup camera now. The camera has to be mounted to the trunk lid, but the reverse lights aren’t mounted to the trunk lid. If I connect the cord wires to the reverse light, there isn’t enough wire to reach the camera. Did my unit come with the wrong cord?

You don’t need to connect the red and black wires at the end of the camera cable. Since your unit is using a CANBUS-compatible harness, it already receives a reverse signal directly from the CANBUS box when you shift into reverse.

Here’s what you need to do:

Do not connect the red/black wires to the reverse light.
Simply connect the camera’s power wire to Pin 5 (the reverse trigger wire) on the main harness.
This will power the camera automatically when the reverse gear is engaged.

This setup allows you to avoid tapping into the reverse lights at the trunk lid, and eliminates the need for additional wiring length.

It was all wired as the instructions said. I removed the wires to the reverse light and that did nothing. I ended up buying another backup camera and it works fine, so I’m assuming the backup camera that came with the unit was faulty.

Now that everything is hooked up and functioning, I have one last question (I hope). How do I get the unit to dim at night? There is a setting for Brightness that distinguishes between day and night, but there is very little difference between 100% and 0%.

1.Please pull down the notification bar and adjust the brightness.
2.Please go to Settings–Factory (enter"3368″) –Backlight Current Adjustment (enter “3368”), then lower the minimum brightness and save the settings. Afterward, restart the radio. You can refer to this video for guidance: Login to see the link

Generally, the minimum value is adjusted to 20 and the maximum value is around 58

Mine was set at 50 and 58. I changed it to 10 and 58 and now it’s much better. Thank you.
