Carplay undiscoverable

Current issues: Carplay not working. Nothing with either wired or wireless. Wired is hooked to the USB 6-pin socket. Climate control features don’t work and read in Celsius only. This did have the factory Sony radio with subwoofer installed.

Have a fix for: The steering control skip several volume levels with one push. The dash controls default to metric every time the car is started. I know the fix for the last two from the forum.

Regarding the CarPlay not working issue, please check the following:

Open the “CarLink 2.0” app and tap the settings icon in the top right corner to check the current version (see image below).

If the version does not match the latest one, please update the CarLink 2.0 app from the App Store (see image below).

Note: After updating, please go to Bluetooth > Bluetooth Settings > Reset on the head unit, and also delete the pairing record on your phone before reconnecting.

Regarding the climate control issue:
Please also update the three CAN bus-related apps from the App Store.

Additionally, I’d like to know:

Do you currently see any door information on the screen (e.g., an icon when a door is opened)?
When you use the original physical climate control buttons, does a climate information window pop up on the display?

Regarding the temperature unit (Celsius/Fahrenheit):
Please go to Vehicle Settings and find the Unit Settings section — you can switch the temperature unit there.

I’m not sure how to open the CarLink 2.0 app. I can see a list of apps, but the CarLink does nothing when pushed.

Not sure also on how to get to the app store. I will hook it up to my home wifi after work and see what I can find.

Yes, I do see the door information on the screen.

Yes, I do see the climate control buttons, but they do nothing when pushed and everything is Celsius.

The unit configuration is set to F and does nothing as it is still shown as Celsius.

Let me try the Canbus update and see if that fixes some of the issues.

Thanks for the video. Here is the stupid thing. I didn’t know that from the home screen you can swipe left for more pages. Capplay and Canbus are know updated and working. The display for the HVAC controls that pops up changed after the upgrade to a smaller compact version. It wasn’t needed so I turned it off in the setting.

SWC is currently working fine after the update also. I did cut the gray wire on the 8-pin control going to the Canbus before the upgrade and am not sure if I needed to do that.

Rear speakers and sub are my next challenge. Not sure if they were working with the factory radio. Any information you could pass along to help me would be great.

Thanks for the update, and I’m glad to hear the Capplay, Canbus, and SWC are all working well after the upgrade!

Regarding the gray wire you cut on the 8-pin control cable: that wire is typically used to prevent the Canbus box from sending incorrect data to the vehicle, especially to avoid it force-switching the unit to kilometers (KM) by default. If your steering wheel controls are working fine now, there’s no need to worry about that wire.

As for your next challenge — are the rear speakers currently not working? And regarding the subwoofer, is it factory-installed or an aftermarket add-on?

This area is responsible for the factory subwoofer output, especially for vehicles equipped with the Sony audio system.

One other thing I was going to ask. Why does the system disable bluetooth when using Carplay? It is not an issue, just trying to understand the reasoning.

Just to add a quick note — in the case of Wireless CarPlay, Bluetooth is still involved but only temporarily. The process works like this:

Bluetooth handshake – your iPhone uses Bluetooth to establish the initial connection with the car.
Switch to Wi-Fi – after pairing, it seamlessly switches to a high-speed Wi-Fi direct link (2.4GHz or 5GHz), which handles all audio/video/Siri/touch data.

So Bluetooth isn’t used during the actual CarPlay session itself — that’s why you might see it disabled or inactive once the system hands over to Wi-Fi.

I do know the RCA connections are not plugged in. The harness is laying on my workbench. I will start with that connection and see what happens.

Everything is working to my liking. But, it says I have a Volkswagen Focus. The bottom of the screen is only the volume. See photo

When it is set to Ford Focus, SWC works but skips volume levels and the HVAC buttons do nothing. Even the temp doesn’t match the factory controls, it is Fahrenheit like I wanted. See photo

Yes, it does. If I would adjust the temp it pops up over what is playing on the screen. There is a double arrow you can push to bring it up manually.

Is this only informational? Can it be turned off?

Hi,

Generally speaking, if your original factory screen could not control the A/C, the aftermarket head unit won’t be able to either.

In your specific vehicle, the original A/C control panel is retained—we did not replace it or use any decoder to take over climate control functions. So, any A/C info shown on the screen is for display only, and doesn’t control anything.

If you want to remove or disable the A/C information pop-up, here are two options:

Remove the bottom A/C display bar:
Go to Settings → Car Model → Select RZC → Ford → Focus → Keep. This will hide the lower A/C UI.
Turn off the A/C info pop-up window:
Go to Settings → Factory (password: 3368) → Original Car Agreement → A/C Information ON/OFF, and switch it off.

When I get time, I will set the Car Model to Ford Focus and go through the relearn of the SWC. The factory Sony did have functional controls on the touch screen for the HVAC (see photo). I think this is redundant when you have control right in front of you. The plan is to just turn it off if it is not functional.

I said the rear speaker were functional with the RCA being connect, but know I am not positive on my drive to work today. I need to did deeper into it at a later date.
